Edmund Z. Hecker

Edmund Hecker entered Eternal Life on April 22, 2024 at the age of 91 years. Ed was born in Warsaw, Poland to Edmund and Marta (nee Kwieczinski) Hecker and was the youngest of 11. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 65 years, Zofia, married on August 16, 1958. Loving Father of Barbara (Michael), Michael (Melanie), Margaret (Paul) and John (Korilyn). Adored Grandfather of Amy, Benjamin, Rosanna, Lauretta (Marco), Charlotte (Ryan), Jessica (Sean), Alexander, Jordan, Jazmyn, Jayce and Jaxon. Proud Great Grandfather of Mackenzie, James, Grant, Enoch, Alice, Reese, Daisy, Ophelia and Brayden. Also survived by many other loving relatives and dear friends. Ed was a scout leader in Poland serving as a letter carrier during the Warsaw Uprising. Ed came to America with his Mother, eventually reuniting with his beloved siblings separated by the war. After settling in Milwaukee along with many friends from the resettlement camps, Ed met the love of his life, Zofia, also a Polish native, through their involvement with Polonia Sport Club. It was at Polonia where Ed and Zofia perfected their dancing skills, especially the polka with the added infamous Polish hop. It was pure joy to watch them on the dance floor together. Ed, affectionately referred to as Mundek by Zofia, absolutely cherished her and they built a life deeply rooted in love, faith and hope for a bright future. They were a role model couple to many and encouraged others to develop a deep relationship like they shared, as husband and wife based on true love. Ed and Zofia raised four children in Franklin, WI where Ed lived out his days in their custom home built by Ed’s brother. As a father, Ed was always encouraging success in all aspects of life through hard work. Ed loved being an Auto Mechanic and proudly owned and operated Ed Hecker’s Auto Service for over 40 years before retiring. He then enjoyed assisting his son Michael at Oxford Art Glass Studio for an additional 18 years. He was an avid reader and expert of Polish history. Ed shared his beautiful tenor voice alongside Zofia’s amazing Soprano, as members of the New Life Choir. Ed enjoyed watching soccer anytime, anywhere, especially when any of the kids were playing. Ed absolutely adored his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, teaching them his favorite games, songs, pastimes and of course, jokes. He and Zofia made a point of including and welcoming their friends to join in the fun. Their home was always open. They truly enjoyed attending every school, sporting event or concert whenever possible, proudly supporting each child with gushing praise. Ed’s sense of humor prevailed to his last days. His faith guided him throughout his life and he and Zofia proudly passed down the traditions of their faith through their love for Polish history, customs and traditions. Traditional Polish Christmas and Easter customs were enjoyed and passed down throughout their family. Some family favorites included Father’s Day at Polish Fest, Egg fights, Pierogi making, Pumpkin Fest and of course the many years enjoyed in Necedah for walks, fires, games, beach time and fun on Castle Rock Lake. Our beloved Edmund, Mundek, Tatus’, Dziadziu, will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
