Scott R. Brittingham

Scott Richard Brittingham, IBEW Union Electrician and Fire Alarm Specialist, of Eagle, Wisconsin, was a beloved fiancé, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and colleague. He is lovingly remembered by his fiancée, Dawn Gustafson; his children, Amanda Paige (Noe) Jerusalmy and Tristan Scott; his parents, Lois and Richard Brittingham; his sister, Tracey (Christopher) Hansen; his beloved extended family, Denise and Jim Vavra and Diana and Ken Dado; and his nieces and nephews, Tyler, Dillon, Justin, Jordan, Hannah, Nicholas, Abby, Jacob, Morgan, Andrew, and Natalie. Scott was born on March 12, 1972, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, just north of Baltimore, Maryland. He and his family lived in Rosedale until 1978, when they moved to Kingsville, Maryland. Scott carried many fond memories of his years in the Baltimore area and loved sharing stories of his childhood pranks and adventures. Some of his greatest joys were the summers spent in Ocean City, Maryland, where he enjoyed sleeping on the beach while listening to music, swimming in the ocean, sipping fruity drinks in the afternoon, walking the Boardwalk in the evening, and enjoying fresh seafood throughout town. In 1986, Scott moved to Naperville, Illinois, when his father was transferred for work. Although the move was difficult for him, his Baltimore roots remained an important part of who he was. After graduating from high school, Scott joined the Chicago electrician’s union, IBEW Local 134, and went on to build a 30-year career as an electrician. He also owned his own company, TRIAM Solutions, proudly named after his children, Tristan and Amanda. Following the economic downturn of 2008, Scott continued his career with other companies before returning to one of his professional passions: fire protection. For the past four years, he served as a project manager for USA Fire Protection, work he loved and took great pride in. Scott shared nearly 20 wonderful years with his deeply loved and cherished fiancée, Dawn Gustafson. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, resilience, and shared joy. They enjoyed traveling, music, good food, and spending time together. In September 2024, Scott proposed during a trip to Door County, and Dawn joyfully accepted. Through life’s challenges and throughout the illness that later limited him, Dawn remained a devoted source of love, strength, and support, staying faithfully by his side until the end. Scott was deeply proud of his children and the dreams they pursued. He supported Amanda as she started her bakery business while still in high school, spending many hours building bakery boxes—an unexpected skill he likely never imagined acquiring. He also enjoyed teaching Tristan how to use power tools and how to build, repair, and problem-solve. One especially meaningful project they shared was rebuilding Tristan’s great-grandmother’s Volvo together. Scott’s love for Baltimore stayed with him throughout his life, especially through his devotion to the Orioles and the Ravens. Though he eventually came to enjoy cheering for the Brewers, he remained loyal to the O’s whenever they came to town. When it came to football, however, the Ravens always came first, followed closely by the Bears—never the Packers. Music was another great passion in Scott’s life. Many people were fortunate to share concerts and live music experiences with him. He loved attending music in the park in Downers Grove while living in Illinois, and he and Dawn enjoyed listening to their favorite musicians in many places, including Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Whether at blues festivals, live performances, or simply at home, music was a constant presence. It was often blasting from the garage or basement as Scott worked on his never-ending projects. Scott also loved snowmobiling. He always looked forward to and enjoyed the annual “boys’ trip” with a week of riding, card games and enjoying each other’s company. They were the brothers he never had. Before his illness hindered his ability to sled, Dawn and Scott took a few trips together. They loved the heavily wooded trails and flying across the frozen lakes. Scott loved jumping the hills. Scott also found great joy in the companionship of his dogs. About 18 months ago, the family adopted Diesel William, a Lab mix from HAWS, and nine months ago welcomed Harley Rose, a Goldendoodle, from a family friend. Both dogs brought Scott tremendous happiness and comfort. Diesel was his faithful traveling companion on Menards runs and visits to Grandma’s house, while Harley was his adored and spoiled baby who, in Scott’s eyes, could do no wrong. He loved watching them play together in the backyard and at the HAWS Dog Park, and he missed them dearly during his hospital stays. Video calls with Diesel and Harley before bed became a special way for Scott to stay connected to them when he couldn’t be home. Above all, Scott loved his family and friends. As end-stage kidney failure began to limit his ability to do the things he loved, what he missed most was spending time with the people who mattered to him and being present in their lives. He was grateful for the many hours loved ones spent visiting him during his hospital stays and for the steady support shown to him in everyday life. Scott will be remembered for his stories, his humor, his music, his pride in his children, his loyalty to the people and places he loved, and the lasting mark he left on all who knew him. A Visitation and Memorial Service honoring Scott’s life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Ft. Atkinson, WI (301 S. High St, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will take place later that afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Matty’s Bar and Grille in New Berlin, WI (14460 College Ave, New Berlin, WI 53151). The celebration will be held in the pavilion, and guests are encouraged to dress accordingly for the weather. Please also feel free to wear your favorite concert tee in honor of Scott’s love for music. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society), with a reference to the HAWS Dog Park.
