(nee Carpenter) Passed away and now reunited with her loving husband of 54 years, Claude, January 25, 2022 at the age of 94 years. Beloved mother of Dale (Danielle). Loving grandma of April Lee Szymanski, James Guhr and Christa Witter. Further survived by her nieces Kris (Mark) Thompson and Susan (Al) Wayda; her nephews Mark Gauger and Rick (Laurie) Szymanski; and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Franc & Myrtle (nee Kammers) Carpenter and her sister Shirley Gauger. Doris was best known for keeping her family and friends well fed. She was an extraordinary cook and baker who made the BEST apple dumplings around. She loved to entertain and poured her heart into everything she made. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and of course time with her family and friends. She cared for her husband, mother and others for many years, always putting others before herself. Doris especially loved the years she spent caring for her granddaughter. Doris taught her to cook, bake, and they played with handmade puppets that she made especially for April. She taught her grandchildren to use their imagination and turn anything into fun. Her stories will be carried on by her family. Simply put, she was the best mother, grandmother and mother-in-law ever. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative.
