Robert "Bob" P. Radke

Robert “Bob” Paul Radke passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026 at the age of 94 years. Bob was born on April 10,1932, the sixth of nine children born to Benjamin and Mary Radke. He grew up in the Town of Lake on Plainfield Ave, now known as Plainfield Curve, where he formed lifelong friendships with the Paetzke family and enjoyed the simple pleasures of childhood. From an early age Bob learned the value of hard work. As a young man he roofed alongside his father and brothers with Radke Roofing before working for his older brother Ralph’s masonry business. One of Bob’s favorite jobs was life guarding at the Sheridan Park Pool. Those experiences shaped the strong work ethic and quiet determination that defined him throughout his life. After graduating from Cudahy High School, Bob proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force and served in Korea. His love of God and country remained constants throughout his life. Following his military service Bob earned his degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and began a career teaching History at Milton High School. He later worked for Marine Bank where he met the love of his life Ruth. Together they shared a deep and enduring bond built on love, laughter and devotion. Bob’s career eventually led him to the American Legion where he served as National Convention Director. His work took him across the country and gave him the opportunity to meet and work alongside numerous Presidents of the United States while crossing paths with celebrated actors, musicians and other notable figures. Though he enjoyed these memorable experiences, Bob remained a humble man who valued people far more than prestige. Bob is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Ruth, his daughter Charlene; his granddaughter Andrea; his parents Benjamin and Mary and his siblings Dorothy, Ralph, Harvey, Betty, Lenny, Joanne and infant twins. Bob is lovingly survived by his stepdaughter April (William) Schauer Marton, stepson Ethan (Bonnie) Schauer; his nephew Ron (Linda) Radke and his cherished grandchildren Lauren Marton, Colleen (Chad) Schauer and Molly (Steve) Schmidt. Known affectionately as “Jaja” Bob was especially proud of his great-grandchildren, Angelo, Stella, Chloe, Theodore and Winston who brought him endless joy. He also treasured the special bond he shared with Carmindi, Jermichael (Mikey) and Carter, each of whom held a unique place in his heart. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Bob’s neighbor and dear friend Leon Gegere, whose unwavering kindness, friendship and willingness to help - day or night and sometimes both - meant more than words can express. They also wish to thank the compassionate staff at Layton Terrace and Amedysis Hospice for treating Bob with such dignity, kindness and respect in his final days. In accordance with Bob’s wishes he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Ruth at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. A celebration of life will be held at Benny’s Restaurant. Additional details will be announced at a later date. Bob will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his love of family, his patriotism, his tireless work ethic and the kindness and generosity he showed throughout his remarkable life.
